Technical upgradation in Indian Drug patent office...

Major technological up gradation is being planned in the patent office to enhance the quality of its services, according to the new controller general of patents who took charge last week in Mumbai. The patents office informed that the main aim behind initiating this drive is to upgrade the present system so as to bring in better quality while granting patents in the country.

It is understood that the patent office has decided to develop a better information system in the office which is aimed at developing and improving the interface between the government and the stake holders which includes both the general public as well as the agents at large. They also are in process to set up information cells at the patent office with data base that is segregated sector wise for better and easy access to all patent information.
Stressing on the need to bring in improved transparency in the system, Chaitanya Prasad who recently took over as the controller general of patents informed that his office will do the best to continue with the initiative that Kurian had started during his tenure. He stressed, “For better performance it is essential that we have a direct and more approachable co relation with the end users. Right now my agenda is to understand the finer points of the demands of the industry and know the issues of the stakeholders so that we can work with each other to address their problems more promptly.”

He further stressed that his office will be open for any active dialogues with the stakeholders that may lead to better delivery of services from the patents office.

To further upgrade its services, patent office is also working on to adopt and bring in a post factor monitoring system into their administrative functioning process. Prasad informed that this system will basically help in monitoring the patent applications that are filed for examinations as well as also to keep a track on the examination process.

Along with this initiative, the patent office will be on constant move to ensure not only quick but efficient services as well. He added, “Henceforth, all our efforts will be put in to ensure timely deliverance of highest quality of work so that we can also be counted among the other international bodies. Most importantly, one of my main focus area would be to address the pending cases of patent application so that we can successfully deal with the issue of backlog and move on with  recent patent applications at the earliest.”
